Duncan Bruce – http://www.duncanbruce.com/
If you want to get a kitchen or a piece of bespoke furniture made, this is where to get it done! He made me a bench with tongue and groove and panelling with hidden storage inside and the most beautiful oak dining table. It was all to my design and made-to-measure! The combo creates one of my favorite areas in my flat. In hindsight I wish he had of made our kitchen but I had already ordered it when I met him. One of the best aspects to the service is that you can even go and visit his workshop in West Sussex to pick out the exact wood you want him to use!
Simon Agombar – http://www.simonagombar.com/
Simon made us a bespoke armchair from scratch. We showed him the design from a picture and told him what fabric we wanted (we picked a William Morris fabric). The chair is stunning and he made cushions for our cream sofa in the same fabric as the chair to tie it all in. Not only does it look great but it is also the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in!
Luma in Barnes – http://www.lumadirect.com/index.php
It has a beautiful selection of home furnishings. For me, their blankets and throws are second to none!
Lots Road Auctions – http://www.lotsroad.com/
Great for furniture but watch out for the dealers who drive the prices up.
Chiswick Auctions – http://www.chiswickauctions.co.uk/
I went to Chiswick Auction house every Tuesday morning for months to decorate our new flat and most of our furniture has ended up coming from there – at incredible prices! We bought a desk, a job lot of antique books, a sewing chest, a chest of draws for the bedroom, a few antiques, prints and artwork. I loved it as every piece is unique and a much better more environmentally friendly way to furnish your home than flat pack!
The Dining Room Shop on White Hart Lane – http://www.thediningroomshop.co.uk/index.html
You could spend all day in this wonderful shop: it’s a treasure trove of interesting pieces. If you are not a fan of plain white plates and mugs have a look at what they have to offer!
Sofa.com – http://www.sofa.com/
I bought a sofa from their standard range and I had them make up an armchair in my chosen fabric which is stunning and incredibly comfortable, it lives in the bedroom and I’m totally in love with it – it’s my reading and sun chair! They are only an internet company which means cheaper sofas for you but you can check out and try out their full range at their headquarters in Chelsea Warf.
And So To Bed – http://www.andsotobed.co.uk/
I know it is expensive, but if you value your sleep buy both their mattress and one of their beds. I don’t believe any bed maker designs better and even their cheapest mattress feels like you are floating on a cloud! But be warned, once you buy one of these beds every other bed you sleep in will be very uncomfortable!
Chiswick Fireplace Company – http://www.thechiswickfireplace.co.uk/
Because too many fireplaces have been blocked up, if you want to bring yours back into to use then Chiswick Fireplaces offers a great selection to fit all styles, sizes and budgets. They offer a comprehensive service with installation, site visit, modifications to suit your flue and safety checks. They can also advise on the historical accuracy a fireplace to fit the age of your house.
Design Centre Chelsea Harbour – http://www.dcch.co.uk/
When you begin to think about fabrics for your home, take a trip to the Design Centre where all the best fabric designers are under one roof. You can easily spend a couple of hours looking through swatches of fabric and wallpaper! For fun/shock, while you are there pop along to Clive Christianson to see how the other half live! They pride themselves on being ‘The World’s Most Expensive Perfume and Furniture for Luxury Homes of the World’ but really it’s like stepping into another world!
